After more than five years together, Karl-Anthony Towns and >Jordyn Woods are officially planning their next chapter. The New York Knicks star recently shared new details about his holiday proposal, explaining that the engagement ring was chosen with far more in mind than sparkle alone.
Towns, who announced the engagement alongside Woods on Christmas Day, opened up about the moment during a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. According to the All-Star center, the proposal came after what he described as five and a half years of navigating the real work of a long-term relationship.
“It was a surprise. We’d been dating for five-and-a-half years up to that point,” Towns said, acknowledging that relationships lasting that long can be rare in the public eye. “We found a way — through the ebbs and flows of a relationship, as anyone would know.”

For Towns, the foundation of their relationship was consistency and commitment. “I think the most important thing is we always chose each other,” he explained. “Through the bad and the good, we always found ourselves choosing each other. That’s what makes for a strong bond.”
That mindset carried directly into how he approached the ring itself. Rather than focusing solely on size or flash, Towns said the piece was meant to represent the journey they’ve shared together. “I wanted her to have a ring that shows that bond and relationship that we’ve built,” he said, before adding with a smile, “and yeah, I want everyone to know she’s mine.”

The proposal took place against a New York City backdrop, a fitting setting for Towns, who is now in his second season with the New York Knicks after spending the first nine years of his career in Minnesota. When asked whether Woods approved of his choice, Towns didn’t hesitate. “Yes,” he said. “She was excited. I think I did well. Her mom approves — I think that’s the most important thing.”
