NiJaree Canady already made history.
The superstar softball pitcher transferred from Stanford to Texas Tech before this season with the promise of a $1 million contract of NIL money from the collective known as The Matador Club.
Now, Canady has been promised even more money for next season, before this year's Women's College World Series even concludes.
According to On3 Sports, Canady will get at least $1.2 million next year.
If anyone has been worth the cost this season, it's Canady. She has a nation-best 0.97 ERA.
Canady has pitched the Red Raiders to their first WCWS, and they're now into a rubber match Game 3 of the championship series against Texas.
She's the first softball player to ever earn this kind of money collegiately. Canady also hits in the heart of Texas Tech's order, but the bulk of her value comes in pitching.
Because of the more natural underhand arm motion, softball pitchers can take to the circle much more frequently than a baseball pitcher can be on the mound.
Canady seems intent on not giving up the ball at all at the WCWS. Texas Tech surely will count on her to get every out in the season's final game as they try to secure a national title.
There's nowhere else Canady would rather be.
The money is huge, and a good thing, but it's not what pushes Canady. She's one of the best competitors in sports, with some of the most talent on the planet. And she will get to keep showing that next year, regardless of the final contract value.
