The 2025 college baseball season is coming to an end. Saturday marks the start of the 2025 College World Series Championship Final. The Sun Belt's Coastal Carolina and the SEC's LSU will duke it out in a three-game series to determine a national champion.
The Chanticleers went with Cameron Flukey on the bump, and he was their second or third starter during the season. He had a great outing, allowing just one run in six innings of work while striking out nine, walking two and allowing just four hits. Unfortunately, Flukey had no run support. The Chanticleers only mustered three hits in the game and couldn't capitalize. At one point Coastal was 0-7 with runners in scoring position.
Why did they struggle? Because LSU starter Kade Anderson was dominant. The southpaw allowed only three hits all game, and allowed three walks, but two of them were hit batters. Anderson and his defense were able to work out of jams throughout the game. The lefty gave his defense credit for helping him out since he didn't have that many strikeouts. Anderson punched out 10 on 130 pitches in the complete game shutout. It was the first complete game shutout at the CWS Finals since 2018.

Final Score -- Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0
Top of the 9th
9:45 p.m. -- Anderson is back on the mound and showing why. He notched his 10th strikeout of the day, setting down Thorndyke. Mihos grounded out to third, and was out in a close play at first.
Freshman Domenico Tozzi pinch hits for Dooley. Anderson walked him, his fifth of the game. Coastal used a pinch runner at first, and LSU sent a coach out to talk to Anderson, who has thrown 128 pitches. The Chanticleers keep their nine-hole hitter in with the game on the line. He popped out to right field and Anderson locked down the shutout on 130 pitches.
Bottom of the 8th -- Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0
9:35 p.m. -- Carbone is still out there for Coastal. He got Milam out for the first time in the game, as he grounded out to third. Brown roped a 3-2 pitch into right field for a single. Jared Jones continues to struggle and grounded into a double play. Anderson is heading back out to try to lockdown the complete game shutout.
Top of the 8th
9:27 p.m. -- Despite his pitch count at 102 to enter the inning, Anderson is still out there. Alexander flew out to deep right for a quick first out. Barthol helped out the Tigers' starter with a one-pitch groundout to first. He walked Mitchell with two outs. Anderson got Pado to strike out looking to end the top half of the inning.
Bottom of the 7th -- Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0
9:21 p.m. -- As expected, Flukey's day is done. He allowed four hits and one earned in six innings of work while striking out nine and walking two.
The lefty Dominick Carbone is on for Coastal. It was a long at-bat for Dickinson that started 3-0, and then got to 3-2, but ended with him getting hit in the elbow for the free pass. Coastal challenged the call because they think Dickinson leaned into the ball. It was reviewed and determined that he did lean into it, and he was called out.
Braswell III grounded out to shortstop for the second out of the inning. Curiel hit a slow roller to first base and beat out a single while the Chanticleer defenders couldn't figure out who needed to field the ball. Frey tried to check his swing but was ruled to have swung at a ball in the dirt by the home plate umpire, and the inning was over.
Top of the 7th
9:07 p.m. -- Mihos hit a slow roller up the middle, but the Tigers defender can't get to it in time, and he is safe at first. Dooley laid down a bunt and he is out at first, although it was a close play. Mihos did move up to second. Sykes grounded out to shortstop and Coastal Carolina moves to 0-8 with runners in scoring position on the night.
Bodine battled, but grounded out to second. Anderson's day is likely done with him at 102 pitches.
Bottom of the 6th -- Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0
8:59 p.m. -- Flukey starts the bottom of the sixth off with a four-pitch walk to Milam. Brown lined out to right, and Milam wasn't able to advance. Flukey continues to have Jared Jones' number, and strikes him out in a huge spot. The Coastal Carolina starter is up to 95 pitches. Hernandez hit a ball into left center for a single, and Milam advanced to third.
Stanfield grounded out to short and the Chanticleers get out of the inning. The question in the seventh will be, who is on the mound for Coastal?

Top of the 6th
8:47 p.m. -- Mitchell flew out to left for the first out of the inning. On Anderson's 90th pitch of the game, he struck out Pado. It looked like Thorndyke had a hit in the gap, but the LSU defender played it well and secured it for the final out of the frame.
Bottom of the 5th --Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0
8:42 p.m. -- Flukey notched his seventh strikeout of the game, setting down Braswell III to begin the fifth. Curiel thought he foul-tipped a pitch, but it was thrown down to first, and it was ruled that he struck out. It was dropped, and then the Coastal catcher threw it down to first for an out. Frey popped out to shallow right field to end the inning.
Top of the 5th
8:34 p.m. -- Anderson now has four strikeouts in a row, and seven overall, as he sets down Sykes to begin the frame. Bodine got hit for the second time in the game. Alexander flew out to center for the second out. Barthol ends the inning flying out to the left center gap.
Bottom of the 4th -- Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0
8:26 p.m. -- Flukey started off the inning, striking out Jones. Hernandez hit a liner right at the second baseman. The ball caught him in between hops and bounced off him and went into center field. Stanfield flew out to center for the second out of the inning. Flukey tallies another punchout and gets out of the inning, setting down Dickinson.
Top of the 4th
8:15 p.m. -- Pado got the inning started with a bang, as he doubled to shallow left. Unfortunately, that's all the offense Coastal Carolina could muster in the inning. Thorndyke, Mihos and Dooley all struck out.
Bottom of the 3rd -- Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0
8:08 p.m. -- Curiel comes back up for the Tigers to lead off the inning. He grounded out to shortstop for the second out of the inning. Frey popped one toward first base, and it was Bodine who was able to reel it in while falling backwards. Milam sent one deep to right field, and just past a jumping defender for a double.
After a great play in the field, Bodine had one get by him and Milam moved up to third with two outs. Against the Tigers cleanup hitter Brown, Flukey strikes him out to get out of the inning.
Top of the 3rd
7:57 p.m. -- Coastal Carolina's lineup turns over, and Anderson begins facing them for the second time. The southpaw plunked Bodine to lead off the inning. Alexander sends one to right field for a single, and Bodine moved up to second. Barthol went with an analytics move and tried to lay down a bunt. Alexander used his being left-handed to fire to third for the first out of the inning.
Mitchell struck out and then Coastal took itself out of the inning. Alexander tried to swipe third, but slide past the bag. He scrambled to get back, but was tagged out.
Bottom of the 2nd -- Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0
7:48 p.m. -- Hernandez grounded out for the first out of the inning. Flukey is locked in right now, and punched out Stanfield. Dickinson lined one to left. It was right into the sun so the Coastal Carolina defender didn't get a good jump and it fell for a single. No harm came from it, though, as Michael Braswell III lined out to right to end the inning.
Top of the 2nd
7:42 p.m. -- Thorndyke starts the inning off by grounding out, giving Anderson a much-needed quick out. Mihos popped out to the left side of the infield, and Anderson has two outs on five pitches after a lengthy first inning. Dooley drew a walk to extend the inning. Anderson punched out Sykes to end the inning.
Bottom of the 1st -- Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0
7:34 p.m. -- Curiel worked the count from 0-2 to 3-2, and Flukey walked the leadoff hitter for the Tigers. Frey grounded out to short, but it was slow so while he was out, Curiel moved up to second and avoided the double play. LSU gets on the board first as Milam hits a line drive up the middle of the field, scoring Curiel from second.

Alexander drew a six-pitch walk for the first base runner of the game. The ball got away from Hernandez for LSU, and his passed ball allowed Alexander to get to second. Barthol grounded out to third and was out at first with Alexander unable to advance.
Mitchell battled in his first at-bat, and was able to draw a two-out walk. This caused LSU's pitching coach to come out, with Anderson at 22 pitches in the first inning. Pado struck out, and Anderson got out of the inning.
