Ortiz (23-0) has been on a roll after recovering from bouts with rhabdomyolysis that kept him out of action. He beat Serhii Bohachuk for interim gold and defended the belt against Israil Madrimov in February.
The 27-year-old former Golden Globes winner appears ready to fight Jaron Ennis in 2026. First, he must take on a game Lubin.
"Like we been saying, he’s been in there with the best and I just want to fight the best, that’s really it," Ortiz said via Bad Left Hook. "I don’t go into a fight thinking I’m going to knock anybody out, I just go in thinking 'I need to do my best, I need to listen to my corner.' If it comes, it comes…it has to be organic."
Lubin (27-2) lost against Jermell Charlo and Sebastian Fundora for super welterweight gold. Between those losses and after, Lubin has gone 9-2 and is on a three-fight win streak.
The 29-year-old is ranked first in the IBF rankings. He looks to win interim gold and spoil Ortiz’s future plans.
"I feel like he's a great fighter, but right now is my time," Lubin said in a Golden Boy interview via The Ring. "I have faced the toughest guys in the division. I am ready to prove myself, fighting against a third undefeated opponent in a row, and a top contender. I am looking to solidify myself as the top 154-pounder."
