So, what do you need to know as an aspiring Tennessee sports bettor, or just as a sports bettor planning a visit to the Volunteer State?

Here are all the details you'll need to get started, including how to join a sportsbook, which sportsbooks are offered in the state, and the best promos and sign-up bonuses available.

Is sports betting legal in Tennessee?

Yes! Tennessee legalized sports betting in May 2019, when Governor Bill Lee allowed the Tennessee Sports Gaming Act to become law without his signature. The first online sports wager was made in the state in November 2020.

Online sports betting is regulated by the Tennessee Sports Wagering Council (SWC). The SWC oversees the licensing and registration process for operators and vendors, and enforces compliance with the state's gambling laws.

To place sports bets in Tennessee, you will need to be:

  • at least 21 years old with online access
  • physically in the state (verify with GeoComply)
  • able to verify your sportsbook account

Please note that player prop bets on college sports are illegal in Tennessee.
