Is sports betting legal in New Jersey?

Yes! New Jersey officially legalized sports betting in 2018, right after the country ended its federal ban on sports wagering. A total of 13 sportsbook apps are available in the Garden State. Legal online sportsbooks began taking bets in August 2018.

Oversight is provided by two key regulatory bodies: the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) and the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. These agencies are responsible for ensuring that all gambling activities in the state operate with integrity, transparency and fairness.

To place sports bets in New Jersey, you will need to be:

  • at least 21 years old
  • physically in the state (verify with GeoComply)
  • able to verify your sportsbook account

Please note that it's illegal to bet on college sports player props in the state of New Jersey.
