DISCLAIMER: Sports betting is not yet legal in Missouri. This article is intended for informational purposes only and will be updated as new legislation, ballot measures or court rulings develop. Until legalization is finalized and regulated operators launch, residents in Missouri cannot legally place sports bets.

Legalized sports betting has been active in some capacity in most of the United States, and Missouri is expected to be the next state to join this company.

Sports betting in Missouri is scheduled to launch on Dec. 1, with pre-registration for sportsbook accounts and deposits scheduled to be available starting Nov. 17.

Of course, the moment Missouri legalizes betting, it will likely become a big player in the U.S. Sports wagering industry. Patrick Mahomes and the three-time Super Bowl-champion Chiefs play in Missouri, as do the Cardinals, the Blues, the Royals and the Mizzu Tigers.

Read on for more about what to expect for the likely December 1, 2025, sports betting legalization in Missouri, including which sportsbooks will likely come to the Show-Me State.

Is sports betting legal in Missouri?

No, sports betting has not yet been legalized in Missouri, but it is expected to start Dec. 1.

Pre-registration for accounts and deposits at MO sportsbooks is expected to begin Nov. 17.

In November 2024, Missouri voters narrowly approved Amendment 2, paving the way for legalizing sports betting. That vote allowed the state to move forward with creating regulations and issuing licenses to operators.

Since then, the path to betting has ramped up with licenses granted to temporary partners.

Which online sportsbooks are expected to launch in Missouri?

No sportsbooks have officially launched yet, because Missouri sports betting is not live or legal.

However, the MGC and betting law have identified up to 14 online sports betting licenses to be granted: 6 licenses will go to apps partnering with casino operators, 6 connected to local professional sports teams, and 2 untethered licenses, which can act independently.

These operators have been granted temporary sports wagering mobile licenses by the MGC, as of Nov. 12. Listed next to them are possible Missouri sportsbook promos that may be included at the time of pre-registration on Nov. 17 in preparation for the Dec. 1 betting apps activation.

📅  October 2023

The capital city of Jefferson City, MO receives 16 new sports betting initiative proposals. This gives plenty of prospective Missouri bettors hope, as it greatly increases the chances of pushing sports betting legalization onto the November 2024 ballot.

📅  May 2022

Missouri sports betting once again fails to pass before the conclusion of the legislative session. Lawmakers missed the proverbial shot clock, with talks stalling yet again due to specific details and inclusions within the bill.

Lawmakers did come close, however. They spent hours discussing HB 2502, but the long at-bat still ended in a strikeout.

📅  April 2022

Sen. Denny Hoskins filibusters in support of the legalization of sports betting in Missouri, but it proves fruitless. HB 2502 swings and misses, with VLTs continuing to serve as a source of dissent among lawmakers.

📅  May 2021

Like many other states that still currently prohibit sports betting, the Missouri Senate failed to approve sports betting before the end of the 2021 legislative session.

The biggest rift caused by the initial sports betting bill? The inclusion of VLTs (video lottery terminals). Lawmakers squabbled about this particular part of the bill, ultimately leading to a negotiation stall-out.
