After a devastating loss in the opening match, England will aim to bounce back when they clash in the second ODI against South Africa on Thursday.

In one of the shocking events, hosts England were bowled out for just 131 runs in just 24.3 overs—their fourth lowest against the Proteas in ODIs. Only the opening batter, Jamie Smith, was able to handle the South African bowling attack, scoring his second half-century in the 50-over format, but no batter could even cross the 20-run mark.

South Africa, meanwhile, is running high on their winning fuel. The Proteas continued their form and chased down the total of 131 in just 20.5 overs. Openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton stitched a dominating partnership of 121, where Markram became the fastest South African opening batter to register a half-century (23 balls). However, it was Keshav Maharaj (4 for 22) and Wiaan Mulder (3 for 33) who dismantled England.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

England vs. South Africa 2nd ODI predicted XIs, team news

England suffered their first defeat under Harry Brook on Tuesday. But the team will be aiming to bounce back immediately in a do-or-die match.

Sonny Baker, the 22-year-old paceman, had a nightmare outing in his debut match. The Torbay-born speedster conceded 76 runs in his 7-over spell. But skipper has shown a glimpse of promise in this upcoming talent and is likely to retain his spot for the Lord's match.

Jamie Smith was the highest scorer for the team in the opening match; he, along with Ben Duckett, will need to step up once again to give the team a fierce start.

On the bowling front, the Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse duo continued in the starting lineup. But keeping the Ashes in mind, England will be looking to manage the workload of these pacers and keep them fresh. Saqib Mahmood is a good option if England wants to optimize their pace bowling attack. Adil Rashid continues to be the leading spinner on the team.

England predicted XI: Jamie Smith, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Sonny Baker.

As for South Africa, their premier fast bowler Kagiso Rabada remains unavailable for the first ODI match, as he is still recovering from his ankle injury sustained during the Australia series. He is likely to miss out on the second match as well.

With Rabada unavailable for the first match, the Proteas bowling lineup will be taken care of by Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger

South Africa has in-form players in their batting lineup. Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, and spin-bowling all-rounder Keshav Maharaj

Keshav Maharaj, who has been in top form lately, delivered a match-winning spell and took four wickets in the opening match. Along with him, Mulder scalped three crucial wickets as well.

Aiden Markram has been phenomenal in the 50-over cricket; he scored his half-century in the opening match in just 23 balls and became the fastest Proteas opening batter to score a half-century.

South Africa predicted XI: Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma (c), Ryan Rickelton (wk), Nandre Burger, Corbin Bosch, Wiaan Mulder, Tristan Stubbs, Keshav Maharaj, Dewald Brevis, Lungi Ngidi, Tony de Zorzi.
