Jack Draper revealed on Wednesday (August 27) that he would be withdrawing from the 2025 US Open.

The announcement from the British no. 1 came just a day before he was scheduled to play his second round match in New York against Zizou Bergs.

The decision would have been a hard one for the fifth seed to make as he would have been hoping to make a similar run at the event to last year, when he made it to the final four in the Big Apple.

Draper's first round victory over Federico Agustin Gomez on Monday (August 25) was his first singles appearance on the court since being knocked out in the second round of Wimbledon in early July.

Upon his exit at SW19, it was revealed that Draper was struggling with an injury in his left arm.

The injury was a bruised humerus in his serving arm and it troubled the 23-year-old throughout the clay and grass court seasons.

This meant the world no. 5 skipped Masters 1000 events in both Toronto and Cincinnati to gather as much rest as possible for the year's final Grand Slam.

Draper's arm failed to get better

Despite battling through his first round contest in New York, Draper officially confirmed his participation at this year's US Open was over due to his persistent arm problem.

On X, he wrote: "I'm sorry I’ll be withdrawing from the US open. I tried my very best to be here and give myself every chance to play but the discomfort in my arm has become too much."

"I have to do what is right and look after myself. Thank you for all the support," he added.

The injury issue Draper has been battling with over the past few months is very unfortunate for him as he had built up positive momentum on the court earlier in the year.

He won his first Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells and was the runner-up at the 1000 event in Madrid.

The unseeded Bergs has received a second round walkover at Flushing Meadows due to Draper's withdrawal and will play the winner of Gabriel Diallo and Jaume Munar in the third round of this year's men's singles competition.
