Tommy Paul and Nuno Borges put on an incredible display at Flushing Meadows in a match that lasted 4 hours and 24 minutes, and didn’t finish til 1:46am in New York.

American Paul came through to win in front of his home crowd 7-6 6-3 5-7 5-7 7-5 on the Arthur Ashe Stadium court.

The 14th seed took a two set lead and had a few match points in the third set, but was pushed to his limits by Borges, who forced the match all the way to a five set thriller.

It was a remarkable feat as Paul has been dealing with injuries throughout the season.

Borges was pictured leaving the court with no shoes on after a strenuous performance.

Even in the final set, the pair were level 4-4 and played one of the points of the match, chasing down the ball across the court.

Match point had the crowd on the edge of their seats as the pair were relentless in their play, but it was a final Borges backhanded drop shot that didn’t make it over the net which sent Paul into the third round.

The American will face Alexander Bublik on Saturday August 30.
