Jannik Sinner has opened up on how can improve his game in the wake of losing the US Open final against Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday (September 7).
The Italian's defeat in the 2025 final at Flushing Meadows saw him lose his status as the no. 1 player in the world to his Spanish opponent.
Alcaraz put in one of the most impressive performances of his career to claim a 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-4 win over his rival and take home a sixth Grand Slam title.
It was clear from the very first game of the contest that Alcaraz was dialled in, as he landed an immediate break, while Sinner failed to settle.
Despite regular issues on first serve, Sinner did have some joy in the final, as he looked more like his usual assured self in the second set.
The 2024 champion's break of Alcaraz's serve in the fourth game was the only break point he had during the entire match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Alcaraz has now won four out of five meetings between him and Sinner in 2025, with the Spaniard's epic five-set triumph at the Roland Garros final one of the great sporting moments of the year.
Sinner's sole win over Alcaraz this year came at the Wimbledon final, which took place just a few weeks after the Italian's heartbreaking French Open final loss.

While Sinner will be glad he successfully defended his Australian Open title and won for the first time at Wimbledon this year, he is aware that he must improve his game moving forward, to ensure regularly beats the likes of Alcaraz.
"I was very predictable on court. He (Alcaraz) changed up the game. That’s also his style of how he plays. Now it’s on me if I want to make changes," Sinner stated in his post-match press conference.
"I didn’t make one serve and volley. I didn’t use a lot of drop shots. Then you arrive where you play Carlos, you have to go out of the comfort zone," the 24-year-old added.
"I'm going to aim to be a bit more unpredictable as a player, that's what I have to do to become a better tennis player, that's my main goal."
The four-time major winner even suggested that he would be willing to lose some matches in the future if it means prioritising a new way of operating on the court.
Sinner is next expected to be in action at the China Open in Beijing in a fortnight, before he begins the defence of his Shanghai Masters 1000 title at the end of the month.
