Daniil Medvedev has learned of what fine he must pay after his much publicised actions at this year's US Open.

The Russian caused headlines due to the behaviour he exhibited during his opening round loss at Flushing Meadows to Benjamin Bonzi on Sunday (August 24).

The 29-year-old was upset that umpire Greg Allensworth awarded Bonzi another chance at a first serve when the Frenchman had a match point in the third set.

Allensworth made the decision because a photographer caused a delay from trespassing near the court between Bonzi's first and second serve.

This caused an incensed Medvedev to confront the umpire and engage in a heated exchange with him.

The 2021 US Open winner then riled up the crowd at Louis Armstrong Stadium, causing a six-minute delay, which turned out to affect Bonzi for the worse as he could not close out the contest.

After managing to take the match to five sets before ultimately losing, a dejected Medvedev aggressively damaged a tennis racket of his.

How much is Medvedev being fined?

The United States Tennis Association has fined the Russian player $42,500 (£31,500) for his behaviour in the US Open opening round.

Unsportsmanlike behaviour sets Medvedev back $30,000 (£22,200), while the rest of the fine fee is issued as a result of him abusing equipment.

The size of the fine means the 29-year-old has to give up approximately 40% of his earnings for the tournament.

An appearance in the first round of this year's US Open is worth $110,000 (£81,400) in prize money.

The fine will not come as a great shock to the world no. 13 as he stated in his post-match press conference that he expected one to come his way due to his antics in the Big Apple.
