Cheltenham will be home to some of the best snooker players in the world as it is set to host the fifth edition of the British Open beginning Monday, September 22.

Mark Selby is the defending champion coming into this year's British Open, having defeated John Higgins in the final last year.

He will be looking to make history this year by becoming the first snooker player to win this tournament for two successive years. However, his task won't be made easy with the likes of the world champion Zhao Xintong and world No. 1 Judd Trump also competing for the title.

When is the 2025 British Open tournament?

The 2025 British Open is a seven-day-long event that will begin on Monday, September 22.

With 64 players competing at the British Open, the first day will be dedicated to the first round. The second round will commence on Tuesday, September 23, followed by the third round on Wednesday, September 24, and the fourth round on Thursday, September 25.

Stakes will begin to increase with the quarterfinals on Friday, September 26, followed by the semifinals on Saturday, September 27.

The final will take place on Sunday, September 28, with the decider for this year's winner not extending to a second day, unlike many other snooker tournaments.

2025 British Open prize money

As was the case last year, the total prize fund for the 2025 British Open is £502,000 across 64 competitors. The winner of the competition will receive £100,000, with the runner-up receiving £45,000.

Every player competing at this year's British Open is in line to receive at least £3,000, with the individual who records the maximum break in the tournament to see their overall winnings topped up with another £5,000.
