Defending PREM champions Bath were able to pull off an impressive win against their West country neighbours Gloucester.
The age-old rivals met in front of a sold-out Rec crowd, as Bath came away with a victory of 38 - 17 on their home turf.
Bath's sensational first half
Bath dominated from the first whistle, as their new addition Henry Arundell showcased his impressive footwork from the wing, prepping the ball perfectly for Tom de Glanville to run over the line for the first try of the match.
It was an effortless performance from Bath in the first half, as their set-piece prowess and expertise throughout the field were shown off. As the clock ticked into the red for half time, Gloucester were 28 - 0 down.
However, Will Joseph was able to finally outwit the defence to land Gloucester’s first try, and first points on the board, making it 28 - 7 going into the second half.
Gloucester's impressive tenacity
If it was Bath’s first half, then arguable Gloucester owned the second half. After Finn Russell was dealt a yellow card early on, after kicking the ball out of Tomos Williams’ hands in the ruck, Gloucester were quick to take advantage, as Ben Loader and Ollie Thorley flew across the whitewash in quick succession.
However, these points were just not enough to rival Bath’s epic first half, especially after Ewan Richards managed to score Bath’s only second half try in the 65th minute.
Russell was also able to acquit himself after earning a yellow card, as on his re-entry to the pitch he successfully kicked a conversion, bagging Bath another three points.
This is the sixth consecutive victory for Bath against their West Country rivals, and cements the beginning of their 2025/26 Gallagher PREM season as just as strong as the one before.
