Willie Peters' Hull KR side suffered a huge blow against sixth-place Wakefield Trinity

Wakefield Trinity stunned leaders Hull KR with a 28–12 victory in Super League round 26, delaying the League Leaders’ Shield race and giving Wigan renewed hope at the top.

Wakefield produced a disciplined and energetic performance, capitalising on Hull KR errors.

Head coach Daryl Powell praised his squad’s composure and focus. “The players showed real character today.

"We stuck to our game plan and made every tackle count,” he said.

Hull KR had hoped to secure the League Leaders’ Shield but were second best at crucial moments.

Coach Willie Peters admitted his team lacked composure. “We are disappointed, but the shield is still in our hands if we respond properly,” he said.

Second-place Wigan Warriors kept the pressure on with a 62–6 win over Castleford Tigers.

Coach Matt Peet said, “The lads were relentless.

"That is the standard we need if we want silverware.”

Wigan can still win the League Leaders’ Shield if they defeat their final-round opponents and Hull KR lose theirs.

Leigh Leopards also claimed a 28–10 victory over St Helens, marking their highest-ever Super League finish. Coach Adrian Lam called it “a special night for the club.”

Current top seven (after Round 26):

  1. Hull KR – 42 points

  2. Wigan Warriors – 40 points

  3. Leigh Leopards – 37 points

  4. Leeds Rhinos – 36 points

  5. St Helens – 32 points

  6. Wakefield Trinity – 28 points

  7. Hull FC – 27 points

Hull KR must win against a struggling Wire side to guarantee top spot, while the Warriors could claim the silverware if they triumph against Leeds.

Wakefield’s win not only disrupts the shield race but also gives them momentum as they push for a playoff position ahead of Hull FC, who kept the race tight with a 34-2 win against Warrington.

Round 26 reinforced the intensity of the closing stages, highlighting that a single upset can shift both title and playoff potentials, keeping fans on edge ahead of the final round.
