Todd Bowles reveals smart way Buccaneers will approach trade deadline image

The bye week has come at the perfect time for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Todd Bowles' team will head into it off a superb 23-3 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Given the injury list currently crippling the Buccaneers, which saw Bucky Irving, Mike Evans, Haason Reddick, Chris Godwin, Luke Haggard, Luke Goedeke, Jalen McMillan, and Calijah Kancey all miss time this season, the Buccaneers could do with some help.

And with the trade deadline approaching, the Buccaneers are in an interesting position, because when healthy, there isn't a big "need" for Tampa Bay, but now that injuries are mounting, how will the team navigate the trade space?

"I think the discussion is more of how much do you have to give up to get somebody that you really want and that'll be the discussions more or less going forward," Bowles said. "We feel like hopefully guys can come back, but at the same time, if there's something out there that's available and depending on whether you got to rob Peter to pay Paul, then we got to weigh those options."

Should Buccaneers be active before the trade deadline?

As Bowles stated, if the front office does see a move that will help the team, and won't have to give up a king's ransom to get that player, then a move might be forthcoming.

Alternatively, though, the Buccaneers won't want to overpay to get a player in who could help straight away, only to be pushed down the depth chart when reinforcements arrive, so it is a delicate balancing act the front office will have to perform over the next couple of weeks.

At 6-2, the Buccaneers are in great shape heading into their bye week, and with Irving, Godwin, Goedeke, and McMillan potentially returning in Week 10 against the New England Patriots, Tampa Bay will hopefully see the treatment room clear out.

But as far as making a move at the trade deadline, I get the sense that unless the move fits, and the Buccaneers don't have to part ways with too much draft capital, it will be as you were for the roster.
