Buccaneers running back Rachaad White enters the 2025 season having lost his starter's job to Bucky Irving, but the veteran still plays a big role in Tampa Bay's offense.
The fourth-year veteran started the Buccaneers' preseason opener on Saturday night against the Titans, looking to cement his status as the primary backup. However, White was forced to leave the game early due to an injury, giving way to Sean Tucker.
After a 990-yard 2023 season, White took a step back and had just 613 rushing yards last year while watching Irving earn more playing time. Still, Tampa Bay hopes both running backs will contribute to a versatile offensive attack this year.
Here's the latest on White's injury.

Rachaad White injury update
White left the team's first preseason game on Saturday night with a groin injury. As expected in preseason, Tampa Bay immediately ruled him out for the remainder of the contest.

White saw a solid amount of action during the game, producing six carries for 28 yards before suffering the injury. He split carries with Sean Tucker, who also got six carries and scored a touchdown himself.
White injured his groin on a carry early in the game, which required Tucker to replace him with the night's starting unit. Considering it's the preseason, it's unclear if White's injury is serious or if Tampa Bay is holding him out for precaution.

Sean Tucker is now in during White's absence, Bucky Irving is not playing tonight, so the RB group is already facing tests.
Buccaneers running back depth chart
Rank | Player |
1. | Bucky Irving |
2. | Rachaad White |
3. | Sean Tucker |
4. | Josh Williams |
Bucky Irving has taken over duties as the Buccaneers' starting running back, as evidenced by him not playing on Saturday night. White was the starter for most of 2024 but has been relegated to a backup role this year.
Tucker, a third-year player out of Syracuse, made a claim for more playing time last year when he had 50 carries for over 300 yards rushing. If White is out long term, Tucker will be tasked with being Irving's full-time backup.
