Buccaneers get huge Chris Godwin injury update image

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin hasn't been sighted since Week 7 of last season after a nasty ankle injury ended his season.

Initially thought to be a chance to return in Week 1, it quickly became apparent that it wasn't going to happen with the Buccaneers playing a cautious approach with their star receiver.

Given Tampa Bay's embarrassment of riches at the position, it can afford to take it slow with Godwin, and it appears things are trending in the right direction with Chris, a limited participant in Buccaneers practice per NFL.com.

It is worth noting that an expected return at around Week 5 is still scheduled for Godwin, so while it is a small step in the right direction, there is still a long way to go.

But any progress is good progress.

Buccaneers still potent without Godwin

The 23-20 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 showcased Tampa Bay's depth at receiver, with rookie Emeka Egbuka hauling in two touchdowns to go with his 67 yards, and Mike Evans posting 51 receiving yards, and Sterling Shepard (39 yards), to be the main weapons for Baker.

Then we can add in Godwin in a couple of weeks, and this Buccaneers offense is going to be tough to stop regularly.

Due to the offensive weapons at Mayfield's disposal, this is the main reason the Buccaneers are seen as a Super Bowl dark horse, and for the offense to function the way it did without Godwin, one can only imagine how it could look when he slots back into the rotation.
