One thing that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Todd Bowles have mostly been able to depend on is a stout defense that gets after the quarterback.

Well, that wasn't the case in 2025, despite the signing of Haason Reddick in the offseason.

The Buccaneers finished the season ranked 19th in sacks (37) and 24th in points allowed per game (24.2).

So, there is clearly a need to fix the Buccaneers' defense, and for Sports Illustrated's Eva Geitheim, that's exactly where the franchise's biggest needs are.

"Tampa Bay dealt with a number of key injuries, but its losing streak also showcased some flaws, particularly when it comes to the pass rush," Geitheim wrote. "The return of Calijah Kancey will be significant for the Buccaneers next season, but they still could use more help rushing the quarterback after Haason Reddick didn’t provide the impact the team was looking for."

Bowles facing career-defining 2026 season

Bowles is back. But he will be under pressure from the get-go in 2026.

After missing the playoffs after a horrific second-half of the season, some wanted Bowles to be given his marching orders.

But the franchise thought otherwise.

Now, this offseason is crucial because it might be Bowles' last chance as Bucs head coach.

Have another failed season, and with two years left on his deal after 2028, Tampa Bay might be forced to part ways.

There's too much talent on this team not to be in the playoffs, and fixing his defense has to be Bowles' top priority this offseason.
