Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is in custody following accusations of attempted murder, according to TMZ.
Brown, 37, was reportedly arrested in connection with an incident at a Miami boxing event earlier in 2025, where he allegedly tried to shoot and kill a man. Miami police confirmed that U.S. Court marshals had captured Brown on Thursday, Nov. 6, after a 4.5-month search for the former NFL star, per NBC News.
Regarded as one of the league's best wide receivers throughout the 2010s, Brown spent most of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, making his last NFL appearance for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.

Nov. 7, 11:50 a.m.: On Friday morning, Brown appeared before a New Jersey judge, who executed his extradition waiver. Brown will now be picked up by Florida authorities and moved to Miami, where his arrest warrant us active.
Nov. 6, 6:10 p.m.: Police confirm that Brown was extradited from Dubai by U.S. Marshalls in connection to an attempted murder charge stemming from an incident in May, 2025.
Why was Antonio Brown arrested?
Brown was wanted in connection to a shooting on May 16, 2025, outside of an Adin Ross boxing event in Miami. Videos that circulated on social media appeared to show the former NFL player in an incident where gunshots could be heard.
Brown posted on social media following the incident, writing that he was "jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me." He also stated that he was detained by police following the incident, but he was then released that night.
In June, the Washington Post then reported that Brown was wanted by police after they received video that showed Brown punching a man, then appearing to take the gun of a security officer and run towards the individual while firing two shots. The alleged victim said a bullet possibly grazed his neck and he went to a local hospital for treatment.
Despite an arrest warrant being issued for Brown around that time, it was not until Nov. 6 that authorities had him in custody. The former wide receiver continued to be active on social media in that span, but according to TMZ, Brown was extradited from Dubai back to the U.S. At the time he was taken into custody.
Brown was accompanied by federal officials to the New York area, and is scheduled to to be sent back to southern Florida, according to TMZ, which is where the alleged shooting incident happened. He will "likely be held at the Miami-Dade Department of Corrections and charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon," per TMZ.
"Miami Police confirm that U.S. Marshals have apprehended Antonio Brown and that he has been extradited to the U.S.," Miami police spokesperson Mike Vega said, per NBC News. "No date has been set for his transfer to Miami-Dade County."
Brown posted on X Thursday following the news of his arrest, writing that he "handed over the keys" to his social media accounts as he goes "through this fight for my innocence."
Throughout his time in the NFL from 2010-21, Brown remained one of the league's leading receivers. He accumulated seven 1,000-yard seasons, all with the Steelers, and won a Super Bowl in 2020 with the Buccaneers.
Brown, who was a seven-time Pro Bowler, also dealt with various off-the-field incidents during his time in the NFL. In 2020, he was suspended by the NFL for violating its personal conduct policy, and in 2021, he was suspended for violating COVID-19 precautions.

Why was Antonio Brown in Dubai?
Brown was likely in Dubai as he was evading his arrest warrant for attempted murder. The U.S. Marshalls ultimately extradited him from the United Arab Emirates and flew him to New Jersey.
To be extradited means to be formally sent back to another country, or state, to be prosecuted for a crime. Extradition is a legal process between separate jurisdictions, with one state/country delivering a person in custody over to the state/country that has the authority to prosecute them.
