The New York Jets were the busiest team during the 2025 trade deadline, wheeling and dealing right up until the 4 p.m. ET cutoff.
When the dust settled, they had participated in the two biggest blockbusters of the day, surrendering not one but two All-Pro talents: star CB Sauce Gardner and standout defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
They fetched impressive returns for their best defensive players, but neither was the player expected to be on a new roster come the end of Thursday.
That distinction was reserved for fourth-year tailback Breece Hall. Vultures swirled around the Jets' front office, planning to snatch the 24-year-old, who is on pace for more than 1,400 yards this season.
Why didn't Jets trade Breece Hall?
Why didn't Jets trade Breece Hall?
Hall was rumored to be on the move ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, with many believing he was the likeliest of New York's core to exit stage left.
Then Gardner and Williams swapped sides, landing with the Colts and Cowboys, respectively. The fire sale appeared to be on, and Hall, alongside linebacker Jermaine Johnson, seemed poised to be next in New York's ranks to move.

In the end, Hall stayed pat. The reason why? The Jets didn't land a return big enough to justify getting rid of him, in their eyes. ESPN's Diana Russini reported that New York was seeking a third-rounder for its fourth-year tailback. It fielded many an offer, per SNY's Connor Hughes, and according to Jordan Schultz, the Jets got "at least one reasonable offer" from an AFC contender for Hall.
But none featured the asset New York was yearning for. The Jets felt their best offer available "wasn't enough" to trade Hall, per Schultz.

The Gardner and Williams trades were costly for Indianapolis and Dallas, respectively, with the former parting ways with two first-round picks and Adonai Mitchell, and the latter giving up a 2026 second-rounder and the higher of its two 2027 first-round picks.
Hall’s return wouldn’t have proved nearly as expensive by comparison. However, teams appeared put off by the prospect of giving up a third-round pick for a player whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Ultimately, if one of the teams regularly linked with Hall — like the Kansas City Chiefs or Los Angeles Chargers — had offered what New York was looking for, he’d be in different colors. That didn’t happen, much to Hall’s chagrin. As a result, he’ll stay in green a little while longer.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn told the media that he did not want to trade Hall, saying he is a good football player. He also denied the reports that Hall wanted a trade.

When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Hall denied the reports that he requested a trade. Though, he did not say yes or no to whether he "wanted" a move.
Breece Hall is asked if he would've welcomed a trade away from the Jets: "I don't think it's up to a player to be traded. I think, in my situation, if I was going to be traded it was going to be whether I wanted it or not."

Hall said he could not control where he wanted to be and to "be where my feet are." He stated to reporters that he's focused on the Jets game against Cleveland on Sunday.
When asked about if he wants to be a Jet next season, Hall had a short response.

Breece Hall contract
Hall is in the final year of the four-year, $9 million deal he signed with the Jets as a rookie in 2022. He's set to receive a new contract in 2026, one would could make him one of the league's highest-paid running backs.
