The Los Angeles Rams have enjoyed a fairly charmed season thus far, climbing near the top of an uber-competitive NFC North behind Matthew Stafford's ageless arm, Puka Nacua and Davante Adams' hands and one of the NFL's best defenses.

But their kicking game has left something to be desired thus far. Joshua Karty emerged as one of the league's better kickers in 2024. He has taken a marked step back in 2025, seeing a handful of attempts spurn the goalposts in recent weeks.

Karty's toils were on full display when he missed a kick in Los Angeles' 26-23 overtime loss to the 49ers in Week 5. And although head coach Sean McVay expressed hope that Karty would find his form, he also acknowledged that the Rams can't afford to carry an inconsistent specialist during the stretch run.

"It's going to cost us," McVay said of Los Angeles' kicking issues, per ESPN's Sarah Barshop. "It's cost us already. And it's been a momentum killer. It does take the air out of our sails. Our guys have shown that they can respond and overcome it, but... The truth of it is this is not sustainable to continuously go where we want to go."

Karty was summarily displaced ahead of Los Angeles' Week 10 duel with the San Francisco 49ers. His replacement carries an outsized frame — and an even larger personality.

So, just who is the Rams' kicker? Here's what you need to know.

Who is Rams kicker?

The Rams enlisted Harrison Mevis  to helm its kicking unit amid Karty's struggles.

Karty has found the target on just 10-of-15 field goal attempts this year (66.7%). He hit 29-of-34 field goals last year (85.3%).

Who is Harrison Mevis?

Mevis is a 23-year old placekicker who plays for the Rams. Prior to his time in Los Angeles, Mevis turned out for the Jets' practice squad. He comes from a kicking family —his older brother, Andrew, played at Fordham and Iowa State before briefly landing a spot on the Jaguars.

Harrison Mevis played collegiate ball at Missouri, earning first-team All-American honors in 2021 after connecting on 26-of-28 field goal attempts. He signed with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2024, although he was summarily waived before the start of the season.

Mevis was then picked up by the UFL's Birmingham Stallions for the 2025 season. Mervis sank 20-of-21 attempted field goals for the Stallions.

Harrison Mevis weight

Mevis weighs 243 pounds. The 5-11 kicker is considered one of the beefier kickers in the NFL, with some likening his build to that of former Raiders standout Sebastian Janikowski. To his credit, Janikowski — one of five kickers selected in the first round of the NFL draft — was 17 pounds bigger than Mevis.

Harrison Mevis nickname

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mevis' impressive girth has drawn plenty of attention. In fact, it's landed him quite the nickname: the "Thiccer Kicker."

Mevis was christened with the nom de guerre  during his college days. According to the Columbia Daily Tribune, the moniker earned him a number of NIL deals, one of which featured a burger named after him in an on-campus restaurant.

In addition to "Thiccer Kicker", Mevis also goes by "Money Mevis." He reportedly filed trademarks for both titles, suggesting he might have an affinity for the names.
