JUMP TO:
For years, the New England Patriots sat atop of the AFC with a superstar quarterback in Tom Brady. Only a few years after Brady’s departure, New England has a similar look of a Super Bowl contender in year one of the Mike Vrabel area, with a new MVP quarterback at the helm in Drake Maye.
Against the New York Giants on “Monday Night Football,” Maye threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns as the Patriots blistered New York, 33-15, in a rematch of Super Bowls XLII and XLVI. The quarterback added onto his MVP resume, where he sits top five in the league in passing yards and touchdowns, as New England advanced to 11-2 and sit in first place in the AFC.
From the jump, the Patriots looked like the playoff team while the Giants lagged behind. Maye led the team down to kick a field goal on the opening drive, then after a Patriots defense stop, Marcus Jones unloaded a 94-yard punt return to make it 10-0; the next drive, Maye hit Kayshon Boutte for a three-yard score to make it 17-0. New England went on to score on five of its six first half drives as the score was 30-7 at halftime.
On the other side, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart made his return for the Giants after missing the past two games with a concussion. The promising signal caller had his moments — including a 30-yard touchdown pass to Darius Slayton — but the Giants fought from behind all night.
As both teams head for the Week 14 bye, the 11-2 Patriots have Super Bowl aspirations, while the 2-11 Giants have a few more games to build on for 2026. At the end of the night, it was about New England, who has that similar look of the 2000s championship teams with Brady, Belichick and co.; this time, it’s Maye, Vrabel and the pool of talent that surrounds them.
