Packers playoff picture: How loss to Ravens impacts NFC wild-card race, Green Bay's postseason chances image

The Packers and Ravens’ Week 17 contest was informally billed as “The Battle of the Backups,” with many expecting the game to descend into carnage. Neither Malik Willis nor Tyler Huntley are known for their playmaking chops — at least not prior to Saturday night.

Instead, the ensuing display proved to be an eye-catching affair. Both Willis and Huntley were at their best at Lambeau Field, with the former producing more than 300 yards of total offense and three touchdowns, and the latter finding success with both his arm and his legs throughout the contest.

In the end, Baltimore had too much for Green Bay. Derrick Henry ran ragged for the Ravens, tallying more than 200 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns in another artful showcase.

The loss proved consequential for the Packers, who saw their hopes of a division title — however slim they were — go up in smoke.

With that, here’s a look at Green Bay’s playoff picture following Saturday night’s action.

Green Bay needed a win — and a lot of good luck — to climb up the NFC ladder. Despite its best efforts, it wasn't able to complete the first task, falling victim to a Derrick Henry masterpiece on Saturday night.

The result is far from fatal for the Packers, who had already locked up a postseason berth after the Lions fell to the Vikings on Christmas Day. Nevertheless, Green Bay's loss does keep it anchored at the No. 7-seed, unable to surpass any of the three NFC West sides in front of it.

Who the Packers will face in the wild card round remains to be seen. There's still plenty of murkiness to work through in the final two weeks of the season, with four different sides capable of landing in the No. 1 seed come the end of the year.

NFC wild-card standings

Green Bay's defeat ensures that it will finish the regular season as the No. 7 seed in the NFC. The Packers can only finish the season with 10 wins, one fewer than the 49ers and Rams currently have and two fewer than the Seahawks. They're currently slated to face off against the No. 2 seed in the first round of the postseason. At present, that means they'd duel with their hated division rival, the Bears.

NFC North standings

After falling to the Ravens in Week 17, Green Bay can no longer catch Chicago, which clinched its first divisional title since 2018. The Bears sit firmly among the NFC’s top four seeds and could climb as high as No. 1, depending on their performance and the results of the Seahawks, Eagles, 49ers and Rams.

As for the Packers, they’ll have to settle for second place in the NFC North.

Packers remaining schedule

Green Bay has one game remaining in its regular season slate: a road matchup against the Vikings. Given Jordan Love's health and the lack of playoff implications on next weekend's matchup, expect to see a fair few backups see some action in this contest, which should serve as a dead-rubber game of sorts for both teams.
