The 2023 NFL season has reached its midpoint and by now, fans know which teams are legitimate playoff and Super Bowl contenders.
It is also becoming increasingly clear which teams are the worst in the NFL, and two of them will be playing in the Week 10 edition of "Thursday Night Football."
Those teams would be the Bears and the Panthers. Each held top-10 picks during the 2023 NFL Draft as well, but their offseason moves have done little to quell concerns about their overall rosters.
The Bears are hurtling toward securing the No. 1 overall pick for the second time in as many years. They aren't currently in possession of it, but if they do fall below the Cardinals as the season continues, they may consider replacing Justin Fields with Caleb Williams.

Meanwhile, the Panthers are one of just two NFL teams that has only won one game this season. This comes despite their decision to trade up from the No. 9 pick to the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to select Bryce Young. Thus far, Young hasn't been nearly as good as No. 2 pick C.J. Stroud, so there is some angst in Carolina right now.
Making matters worse, the Panthers don't own their first-round draft pick this season. That belongs to the Bears, so Chicago is currently on pace to possess two top-three picks.
The Bears will be happy to have those high-end selections in a draft that appears to be loaded at quarterback. There are also some other key offensive players — Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and Notre Dame left tackle Joe Alt — who could draw top-10 consideration if Chicago keeps both of its early picks.
Thus, Chicago seems poised to greatly improve its offense during the 2024 NFL Draft. And even if the Bears don't end up with the No. 1 pick again, they will be in control of the event because of their early pick buying power.

Top 2024 NFL Draft prospects
The 2024 NFL Draft looks like it will be loaded at the quarterback position. As mentioned, USC's Caleb Williams is the consensus No. 1 pick at this time, and he has the tools needed to become a franchise quarterback at the NFL level.
Not far behind Williams is North Carolina's Drake Maye, a big-bodied quarterback with good accuracy and mobility that should make him a quality NFL quarterback. He is the one QB who could challenge Williams for the top spot in the draft and may ultimately be a top-five pick if all goes well.
Michael Penix Jr. and Quinn Ewers are two other quarterbacks who could rise during the draft process. Penix has a big arm, great accuracy and has posted huge numbers while leading Washington to an undefeated 9-0 start to the season. Ewers helped Texas upset Alabama, has a live arm and improving accuracy. He isn't healthy now, but he still remains in the mix for an early round pick.

The top non-quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft is receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. from Ohio State. The Buckeye got off to a slow start in 2023 but still has managed 52 catches for 914 yards and 10 touchdowns in just nine games. His combination of size (6-3, 202 pounds), speed and route-running abilities make him look like a true No. 1 receiver at the next level; he might end up being the best overall player in this draft class even despite Williams' talent.
Florida State receiver Keon Coleman and Georgia tight end Brock Bowers also profile as high-end draft picks for teams seeking out offensive weapons. Each is a big-bodied mismatch weapon with more speed than most would expect at his respective size (both are 6-4).
Notre Dame's Joe Alt and Penn State's Olu Fashanu are the top offensive tackles on the board while UCLA's Laiatu Latu and Alabama's Dallas Turner are arguably the best defensive players.
There are plenty more prospects to be considered as the college football season continues. Still, one thing is clear in looking at this prospect pool: Teams in need of offensive help early in the draft will have opportunities to fix their weaknesses.
That should bode well for the Bears thanks to their two early picks.
