NFC West standings: How Seahawks-Rams 'Thursday Night Football' game impacts division race, playoff picture image

The NFC West is the NFL's best division going into Week 16 of the 2025 NFL season. The Rams (11-3), Seahawks (11-3) and 49ers (10-4) all would be in the playoffs and those records suggest anything can happen in the division race over the final three weeks.

Los Angeles and Seattle will open this week's action on "Thursday Night Football:. San Francisco will close it out (at Indianapolis) on "Monday Night Football".

Here's what the Seahawks vs. Rams result would mean overall in the NFC playoff picture:

2Seattle Seahawks11-3
3San Francisco 49ers10-4

The Rams hold the NFC's top seed and are tied for the conference's best record with the Seahawks. They have the tiebreaker over the Seahawks after winning head-to-head at home in Week 11. The 49ers are only a game behind both teams and will gain ground on the TNF losers with a win over the Colts.

Seattle and San Francisco hold the top two wild cards going into Week 16, the respective No. 5 and No. 6 seeds.

If the Rams win...

The Rams, who already clinched an NFC playoff spot in Week 15, would go up by a full game at 12-3 and also put the tiebreaker on lock over the Seahawks, who would be 11-4. That would also keep Los Angeles at least one game ahead of San Francisco going into Week 17.

If the Seahawks lose and the 49ers win, the 49ers would jump up to No. 5 and second place. They own the head-to-head tiebreaker from winning in Seattle in Week 1. The Seahawks also would fall to 2-3 in division play, while the 49ers stay at 4-1. The teams meet again in San Francisco in Week 18.

The Seahawks cannot fall more than one spot with a loss, as they would still be ahead of the Packers-Bears loser from Saturday.

If the Seahawks win...

The Seahawks would then improve to 12-3 and the Rams would fall to 11-4. That would give the Seahawks a one-game lead along with a season series split. The Seahawks and Rams would also have the same division records at 3-2.

The Seahawks also would jump from the No. 5 wild-card spot to the No. 1 seed position in the NFC, at least one game ahead of the Bears, who go into Week 16 at 10-4.

If the Rams lose and the 49ers win, then both teams would have the same 11-4 record. They split the season series, but then the Rams would be 3-2 in the division with the 49ers staying at 4-1. The Rams would then fall from No. 1 to No. 6, with the 49ers moving from No. 6 to No. 5, a game out of first place behind only one team. Should the Rams and 49ers lose, the Rams would be the No. 5 and the 49ers would stay at No. 6 ahead of the Packers-Bears loser.

In the unlikely event of a tie, the Rams would stay ahead of the Seahawks at 11-4-1 because to head-to-head tiebreaker and also open the door for the 49ers to gain a half-game on both teams with a win.
