Micah Parsons trade details: Cowboys send star EDGE rusher to Packers in blockbuster deal image

Micah Parsons is no longer a member of the Cowboys.

On Thursday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Dallas traded star edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Packers on Thursday. It comes on the heels of Parson's trade request from the organization and a dispute that dragged on throughout the preseason.

The writing had been on the wall that the move was going to happen as contract talks stalled. Jerry and Stephen Jones both had viral quotes about Parsons, saying that he needed to want to get paid by the team. Parsons waited a few days and let everything sink in from the comments and reaction.

The former Cowboy requested his trade on Aug. 1, stating blatantly in his message, "I no longer want to be here."

A trade request is one of the very limited options that players have for leverage. Parsons, penning the letter to fans, put forth all of the drama from the negotiations, including words and sentiments that aren't easy to take back.

It remained up in the air whether Dallas would grant Parsons' trade request, but now, he gets his wish with a fresh start with the Packers, a team with its eyes on the NFC North crown in 2025. In many ways, Parsons' trade marks one of the rare examples of a younger NFL superstar in his prime being dealt.

Micah Parsons trade details

Cowboys get:

  • Two first-round picks
  • DT Kenny Clark

Packers get

  • DE Micah Parsons

Parsons is one of the best edge rushers in the league and instantly bolsters a Green Bay defensive front led by Rashan Gary and Devonte Wyatt. Given his age and high level of play, the package for him was expected to be very high.

Schefter reported in the aftermath of the Parsons announcement that Dallas is acquiring two first-round picks from the Packers, along with DT Kenny Clark. A former first-round pick by Green Bay, Clark had been with the team since 2016 and owns 35 career sacks.

Schefter added that Parsons and the Packers have already agreed to a new four-year, $188 million contract, which includes $120 million fully guaranteed at signing and makes Parsons the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history.

Parsons released a statement following the trade, thanking the Cowboys for his time with the franchise.

Micah Parsons contract

Parsons' contract was a big topic of conversation leading up to his trade. The star EDGE rusher was set to play 2025 under his fifth-year team option, but he wanted a longer deal. Talks between him and Dallas fell apart. He tried to focus on training camp, but then Jerry and Stephen Jones both made comments about how he had to prove he deserved to be paid and wanted to be paid.

These comments went viral, and fans started chanting for Parsons to be paid. Instead, he has been traded to Packers, where he then reportedly signed a new four-year, $188 million contract that makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history. Additionally, Parsons will receive $120 million fully guaranteed at signing.

Per Schefter, Parsons will receive $62 million in the first year of his new deal in Green Bay, $120 million fully guaranteed, and a total of $136 million guaranteed, which are all new NFL records for non-quarterbacks.
