Micah Parsons-Packers rumors, explained: Why a franchise legend's tweet caused Cowboys trade speculation image

The 2025 NFL regular season is nearing, and Cowboys star Micah Parsons is still holding out. He's demanding a new contract, and the situation has gotten so messy that he not only requested a trade, but also penned a letter thanking Dallas and explicitly saying he didn't want to be there anymore.

Parsons isn't the only player who held out this preseason, or even the only one who requested a trade. Both Commanders WR Terry McLaurin and Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson requested trades, but neither posted a lengthy letter on social media going into personal detail about how they are done with the franchise for which he currently plays.

With Parsons taking drastic measures, NFL analysts have been throwing out teams that could look at adding the star EDGE rusher. One franchise mentioned has been the Packers. The move makes sense as Green Bay should have the cap space to give him the contract he wants, and pairing him with some of their young defensive pieces could help them overtake their divisional rivals. The move would keep him in the NFC, which Dallas likely would want to avoid.

Packers fans have had a small flame of hope that they would get Parsons, and that was ignited on August 26 when a franchise legend tweeted three simple words that sent the fan base into an uproar. Longtime tight end John Kuhn tweeted out "Micah Freaking Parsons" and that was all it took to go viral.

Here is more on how a tweet from Kuhn stirred up trade speculation for Parsons.

Micah Parsons trade rumors

All of the trade rumors have been speculation, hence why they are rumors. Still, this allows the internet to go a little crazy with trade ideas. Green Bay has been rumored to be looking to move either Romeo Doubs, despite head coach Matt LeFleur saying the opposite, and Christian Watson. One of them could be included in a trade package for Parsons.

The clickbait-heavy, viral Twitter account RickyScoops sent out a message that the Packers have a trade on the table for Parsons and have a new contract ready for him worth $45 million. This came out about three hours before Kuhn's tweet, adding to Packers' fans' hopes that the star EDGE would be heading north. It's worth noting that Ricky has hit on a few of the rumors that he has put out, but with the number of things he has alluded to not happening, it feels as though he's throwing darts at a board and hoping one sticks.

The only two NFL analysts who have discussed Parsons and the Packers extensively are NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Even then, though, both have only included the franchise as a team that could have interest in Parsons, and neither mentioned that Green Bay has had any conversations about a possible move.

Will Micah Parsons be traded to the Packers?

We don’t know for certain, but it feels as if the relationship between the Cowboys and Micah Parsons has passed the point of no return. The public nature of their falling out makes it hard to see a reconciliation. Still, stranger things have happened, and money is often the great equalizer. Parsons reportedly landed the biggest contract ever for a non-quarterback, a deal that could improve his outlook in Dallas.

If the Cowboys do trade him, they’ll likely want to send him to the AFC. That way, they’d face him only once every four years or in the Super Bowl. What Dallas wants to avoid is trading him to a team it could see regularly and risk being eliminated by in the postseason. If it comes down to a scenario where the Packers are the best option — or if Parsons threatens to sit out the 2025 season — the Cowboys may ultimately make the move anyway.

Packers general manager Brian Gutenkurst had his say on the Parsons rumors while speaking with media on Wednesday. Gutenkurst said he couldn't speak on players from other teams. But he vowed to take "every opportunity that’s out there" to help improve the Packers, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
