Stepping into the primetime spotlight for his third start of the season, Mac Jones delivered the kind of rock-solid, efficient performance that is quickly becoming his calling card in the Kyle Shanahan offense.

On a night when the injury-riddled San Francisco 49ers desperately needed a steady hand against the Los Angeles Rams, Jones provided exactly that, orchestrating a masterful effort on Thursday Night Football to guide the team to a crucial divisional victory. The veteran quarterback controlled the tempo and minimized mistakes, finishing with 342 yards on the night in the 49ers' 26-23 win. San Francisco advanced to 4-1 and sole possession of first place in the NFC West.

The No. 15 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft was reportedly highly-looked upon by the 49ers front office, before San Francisco decided to pick Trey Lance four years ago. Now, years later, Jones is a 49er and performing at a top level.

Mac Jones highlights

Jones opened up the game hot, completing five of five passes on the first drive.

It ended with a touchdown to Jake Tonges.

The San Francisco offense scored the first 14 points of the game, the second touchdown pass for Jones. This time, he hit Christian McCaffrey.

The 49ers quarterback was feeling swaggy early, especially after throwing touchdowns on his first two drives.

While the offense did not score another touchdown, Jones led them into Rams territory multiple times. Eddy Piniero was 4-for-4 on field goals on the night, one coming as time expired in the first half, two in the second half, and the game-winner in overtime.

In a major play in the fourth quarter, Jones and McCaffrey connected again for the first time since the touchdown.

Jones made a bunch of other crucial throws besides his touchdown, many of them coming to Kendrick Bourne, who had 10 receptions for 142 yards on the night.

Jones and Bourne connected a number of times throughout the night, many of them coming for 10-plus yards.
