Jalen Hurts' ascension from second-round pick to Super Bowl MVP has been one of the NFL's top stories over the years.

After a fascinating college career between Alabama and Oklahoma, Hurts became the Eagles' quarterback of the future when they selected him in the 2020 NFL Draft. His growth into stardom may have come quicker than even Philadelphia anticipated, though. By 2021, he was a full-time starter, and by the 2022 season, he led the team to the Super Bowl.

Flash forward a few years, and Hurts is a Super Bowl MVP and considered one of the best signal-callers in the league. The Eagles passer has come a long way from his roots in Texas, the biggest high school football state in the country, where he became a highly touted recruit and committed to the Crimson Tide.

Along his journey, Hurts has had a tight-knit group of supporters, from his football coach father to his wife, Bry Burrows. Here's what to know about Hurts' family tree.

Jalen Hurts wife: Bryonna 'Bry' Burrows

Hurts' wife is Bryonna "Bry" Burrows. The two met when they both attended the University of Alabama; Hurts was on the Crimson Tide football team from 2016-18, while Burrows graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and political science, per People. Both were involved in Greek life while at Alabama.

Burrows works in the tech industry as an AI partner for IBM, and for the most part, she and Hurts kept their relationship quiet publicly for years. However, after the Eagles beat the 49ers in the 2023 NFC Championship Game, Burrows was spotted celebrating with the quarterback and his family.

The following year, Hurts was honored at the Time100 Next Gala, and Burrows was by his side on the red carpet.

In September 2024, Burrows was seen wearing an engagement ring at the Eagles' season-opener. Not long after, the couple confirmed to Essence that they were engaged, sharing photos from Hurts' proposal.

When Super Bowl 59 came around, and Hurts led the Eagles to their second title with his MVP performance, Burrows once again was there to celebrate with him. In the spring of 2025, Hurts and Burrows shared that they had officially gotten married.

In May 2025, they also attended the Met Gala together.

Jalen Hurts dad: Averion Hurts

Hurts' father, Averion (avery-on), coached he and his brother, Averion Jr., in football throughout their youth. Like his children, Averion Hurts was an alum of Channelview High School in Texas; he played offensive lineman, graduating in 1986, and was also a six-time All-America selection in track and field.

Averion Hurts later attended Division III school Howard Payne University, where he also played football and ran track. After graduating in 1990, Hurts began teaching in 1994 and became a high school assistant football coach by 1996.

In 2006, he became the head coach at his alma mater, Channelview High School, where he remains the coach to date. He coached Jalen in high school, and as a senior, the quarterback threw for 2,384 yards and 26 touchdowns, also rushing for 1,391 yards and 25 touchdowns. Under his father's leadership, Jalen became a top dual-threat quarterback prospect before his commitment to Alabama.

"He's the reason I am who I am on the field, off the field," Jalen Hurts said of his dad during a pre-Super Bowl press conference, per People. "Being a coach's kid, I talk about it all the time, but I truly lean on that."

Jalen Hurts mom: Pamela Hurts

Hurts' mother is Pamela Hurts. Just like Hurts' father, Pamela has been an educator her entire career, as she also worked at the Channelview school district in Texas. At one point, Pamela was the math special education teacher for grades 6 through 8 at the district's junior high school, also serving as the Special Services Department Chair.

As Jalen was growing up, it was Pamela who seemed convinced Averion that he shouldn't be an offensive lineman, like his father.

"My wife, she's the reason they're quarterbacks," he said of his two sons in 2016, per Fox 26 Houston. "(Me) being a bigger guy, you kind of expect that, 'OK, I'm going to have some linemen,' and do those things. Well, she's not a big woman, so she kept them slim. It's just something that happened to pay off."

When Jalen Hurts was going through a highly publicized quarterback battle at Alabama with now-Dolphins passer Tua Tagovailoa, Pamela was outspoken about her son's demeanor and how others were talking about him.

"Wow, ignorance is blissed,” Pamela Hurts wrote in a Facebook status, per Touchdown Alabama. “When has Jalen ever spoken to media about anything other than the team? When has he ever whined, pouted, or talk about what y’all don’t know takes place behind the scenes? There’s a reason why players aren’t allowed to speak to the media. Jalen spoke his truth, finally, after three years of being compliant and controlled. You have no idea what is and has been going on — and most likely, never will.

“Folks quick to speak highly on his character and demeanor but know he is completely opposite of those accolades today. If you can turn on this young man today and not your president for any of his rhetoric, you were never with him to begin with.”

Pamela Hurts' willingness to speak on her son's football journey continued into Super Bowl 59, when she told Fox 29 Houston that she "always believed" Jalen would make it in the NFL.

"It’s very fulfilling because it’s not a matter of him trying to prove people wrong; it’s him proving himself right," she reportedly said.

Jalen Hurts brother: Averion Hurts Jr.

Jalen's older brother is Averion Hurts Jr. He was also a high school quarterback, as the 2012 graduate was a starting passer and also played baseball at Channelview.

In 2016, Averion Hurts Sr.said it was his oldest son who wanted to be a quarterback first when he started playing football, and Jalen wound up following in his older brother's footsteps:

"For whatever reason, when Averion (Jr.) started playing, he wanted to be a quarterback," Averion Hurts Sr. said. "That's just what he wanted to do. And they both grew up as baseball kids, so they had arms that could throw. And so they just went on, and Jalen kind of followed in that mold."

After high school, Averion Jr. took how talents to Texas Southern, an HBCU in Houston, and became the football team's starting quarterback in 2015 and 2016. According to his team page, the older Hurts brother threw for 2,854 yards and 26 touchdowns, adding 398 rushing yards and six more touchdowns over his 19 collegiate games.

Eventually, Averion Jr. took his football wits into the coaching world, following in his father's footsteps by becoming the quarterbacks coach for Summer Creek High School in Houston. Most recently, he became the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Westfield High School.

Averion Hurts Jr. has also been married to his wife, Alexandrea Francis, since 2021. The two met at Texas Southern University.

In 2021, Jalen Hurts told GQ that he had money set aside to pay for his sister's college education.

"I haven't really talked about this one to anybody yet, not even my parents or my sister even," Hurts said in the interview. "Just in case she needs it in the future, she's 16 now, and she's going to go to college one day. ... she's going to do great things, and just in case she needs it, I have $70,000 set aside for her to go to college."
