What was already obvious to Eagles fans became official on Monday: Jalen Hurts is Philadelphia's quarterback of the future, and the franchise is paying him like one.

Ian Rapoport Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reported that Hurts is signing a five-year, $255 million contract extension following a season in which the Eagles went 14-3 and made Super Bowl 57 vs. the Chiefs. Hurts, who is just 24 years old, is coming off his third NFL campaign in which he set career-highs in completions (306), completion percentage (66.5), passing yards (3,701) and passing touchdowns (22, compared to just six interceptions).

Hurts also set new career marks in rushing attempts (165) and rushing touchdowns (13). He also rushed for 760 yards on 4.6 yards per carry. His dual-threat ability and calm demeanor has made him the Eagles' unquestioned leader, and one the team wanted to secure long-term — hence his extension.

But how does Hurts' new contract compare to other top-earning quarterbacks — such as the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes and Browns' Deshaun Watson — in terms of average annual salary, guaranteed money and total value? In short: very well.

Jalen Hurts contract details

  • Total value: $255 million
  • AAV: $51 million
  • Guaranteed money: $179.3 million

Hurts reportedly signed a five-year, $255 million contract extension through the 2028 season. That includes $179.3 million in guarantees, $110 million of which is due at signing, and an average annual salary of $51 million that eclipses Aaron Rodgers' previous record of $50.3 million.

Per an additional report from NFL.com, Hurts' extension also includes incentives that, if met, would give him a maximum of $274.3 million through 2028, including money left on his rookie contract. It also includes the first no-trade clause in Eagles franchise history.

Patrick Mahomes contract details

  • Total value: $450 million
  • AAV: $45 million
  • Guaranteed money: $141.5 million

Mahomes' contract, which still holds the record for total value, looks like a bargain in light of recent mega extensions signed by QBs. Following his first Super Bowl victory in 2020, Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million contract with $141.5 million guaranteed. Neither Mahomes' AAV nor guaranteed money ranks among the top five active NFL quarterbacks: a pretty good deal, considering he is still the premier signal-caller in the league.

Deshaun Watson contract details

  • Total value: $230 million
  • AAV: $46 million
  • Guaranteed money: $230 million

Watson's deal is something of a controversial topic: The Browns guaranteed the entirety of his five-year, $230 million contract, the most ever in NFL history, after he hadn't played a single down for the Texans in 2021. It has also been a sticking point as another premier quarterback, Lamar Jackson, seeks to earn a similar contract in terms of guaranteed money. For now, Watson holds the NFL record for most guarantees.
