Since being selected No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2023 NFL Draft, Bryce Young has faced plenty of adversity.

Young's rookie year and the beginning of his sophomore season were disastrous to say the least. While the team around him was certainly not built for winning, Young's performance was so poor that fans were ready to call him a bust.

However, after being benched in 2024, Young found his groove in the NFL. His play at the quarterback position improved, and the wins soon followed.

The 2025 season marks the first time the Panthers have been in the playoffs since Cam Newton was taking snaps.

What's the huge difference between Young and Newton? Well, one is that they attended rival universities; the other is, of course, the staggering height difference between the two.

AllSportsPeople has everything you need to know about Bryce Young's height.

Who is shortest player ever to play in the NFL?

The shortest player in NFL history was Jack Shapiro of the Staten Island Stapletons. Shapiro played in one game with the Stapletons in 1929, and his position was titled "blocking back." Whether Shapiro contributed heavily or not, the Stapletons crushed the Minneapolis Red Jackets 34-0 in the only game of Shapiro's career.

Shapiro played nearly 40 years before the NFL and AFL merger in 1966, so here are some more recent players who were close to making history as the shortest players ever:

    • Mack Herron, 5-foot-5 (1970 to 1975)
    • Trindon Holliday, 5-foot-5 (2012 to 2014)
    • Deuce Vaughn, 5-foot-5 (2023 to present)
