The New York Jets' quarterback room has been clouded by uncertainty since Justin Fields was benched in a Week 7 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

While many expected Tyrod Taylor to take over as the Jets' starter in Week 8, an injury to Taylor complicated the decision. First-year coach Aaron Glenn refused to name a starter, and even a strong start by Fields in New York's first win of the season wasn't enough for Glenn to immediately declare him the team's Week 10 starter out of the bye.

The Jets won again in Week 10, but they largely won in spite of Fields, who was sitting on just 12 passing yards through three quarters. Now, the mystery continues.

Here's what you need to know about Glenn's plans at quarterback for the Jets' "Thursday Night Football" game against the New England Patriots.

MORE WEEK 11 NFL:

Who is Jets starting QB?

Fields has started every game but one this season, missing a Week 3 start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a concussion.

However, his status as the Jets' starter has been a mystery since late October. Glenn kept his quarterback plans under wraps ahead of Week 10, though most assumed Fields would earn at least one more start after beating the Cincinnati Bengals. After a disappointing showing for Fields in a win over the Cleveland Browns, however, Glenn refused to name a starter for "Thursday Night Football" against the Patriots.

"Don't ask me anything about the quarterbacks," Glenn told reporters. "You know I'm not going to tell you and I don't want to waste my time when it comes to that, when it comes to who's starting."

Glenn previously called his refusal to name a starter a "competitive advantage." To his credit, the Jets are 2-0 since he said that — but it's tough to say Fields' Week 10 performance is enough to consistently win games. Until Taylor is under center, it still appears Fields is the Jets' starter.

Is Justin Fields starting vs. Patriots?

Glenn has not indicated whether Fields or Taylor will start in Week 11.

While conventional wisdom would say a quarterback change is unlikely on a short week after back-to-back wins, Fields was already benched mid-game once this season and struggled mightily in Week 10 with just 54 passing yards — 42 of which came on a short pass to Breece Hall that was run in for a touchdown.

The short week might convince Glenn to stick with Fields and re-evaluate the quarterback room after the game, but he at least wants to give the impression that all options are on the table leading up to kickoff on Thursday.

A Taylor takeover could be imminent, but Fields has been the Jets' No. 1 quarterback nearly all season long and is coming off his first two wins with the franchise.

Fields didn't throw his first interception of the season until Week 10, but that hardly tells the full story. The former first-round pick has thrown for less than 60 yards in four of his eight starts, only one of which he was benched during, and he has thrown only two touchdown passes in his last four starts.

Waiting in the wings is the veteran Taylor, who doesn't offer much upside for the Jets at age 36 has made starts for seven different teams with a career 28-29-1 record. Taylor stepped in for a concussed Fields to start in Week 3 and replaced Fields mid-game in Week 7.

Former Missouri QB Brady Cook is the Jets' emergency No. 3 quarterback after going undrafted in the spring.
