Jets QB Justin Fields reveals plan to help team claim first win of 2025 season image

The New York Jets have endured a disastrous start to life under head coach Aaron Glenn as the team currently sits 0-6.

The team remains the only winless outfit in the NFL this season, with struggles existing on both sides of the ball.

A loss to the Denver Broncos in London last weekend highlighted the team's poor offensive output, as the team registered a franchise-low -10 net passing yards in the game and put up just 82 total yards.

The offensive-line provided little protection for Justin Fields as the quarterback was sacked nine times at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Jets have also looked vulnerable defensively, allowing 170 points across all six games so far.

This is despite Glenn's past experience in defensive-based coaching roles in the league, which includes his impressive stint as the Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator prior to being appointed by the Jets.

Fields on how he can help the Jets improve

Fields, who joined the Jets in the off-season from the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been relatively conservative with throwing the football in his six appearances for the AFC East team.

Only nine of the 26-year-old's passes this season have gone for over 20 yards, with his longest completion being a 33-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson in Week 1 against the Steelers.

Against the Broncos, the Jets quarterback threw for just 45 yards on nine out of his 17 pass attempts.

Ahead of the Jets hosting the Carolina Panthers in Week 7 (October 19), Fields has addressed what he can do better to help his team secure a first win of the 2025 campaign.

"I feel like I've been a little bit too conservative," the former first-round pick stated. "I've always just been big on ball security and not putting the ball in jeopardy."

"But it comes to a point where you've just got to find that healthy balance between trying to maybe fit it in smaller windows and just letting it rip," he added.

"I think I can be more aggressive. Taking some shots down the field and trying to stretch the field a little bit, I think that's important for us as an offence to create explosive passes."

Fields understands the drawback of being overly aggressive in the passing game as a quarterback, but realises that approach is now necessary for him and his team.

"Everybody is going to throw picks, that's just a part of playing quarterback. I looked at myself this past game and over the season and told myself that I can be more aggressive."

After playing the Panthers, the Jets will travel to face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8 (October 26), before having their bye week.
