New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is firmly in the MVP conversation after leading his franchise to a stunning 14-3 regular season and an AFC East title. In just his second year, the former first-round pick has become the cornerstone of a revitalized New England offense, blending elite efficiency metrics — including an NFL-leading completion percentage and QBR — with dynamic dual-threat play.

Maye’s maturity and poise under pressure have transformed the team, making his MVP case less about individual statistics and more about his impact as a young leader who took a four-win team and positioned it for a deep playoff run.

While Maye commands the national spotlight for his on-field heroics, his success is merely the latest chapter in a remarkable family legacy of athletic excellence. The competitiveness that fuels the young quarterback’s late-game drives was forged while growing up in a household where championship rings were commonplace.

Drake is now poised to lead his team to postseason glory, but he isn’t the only Maye to achieve elite success. His older brothers, Luke and Cole, have each claimed an NCAA national championship in their respective sports, cementing the Maye name as one of the most decorated athletic families in recent memory.

Here’s more on the Maye family and their athletic achievements.

How many brothers does Drake Maye have?

Maye is the youngest of four brothers, all of whom have established impressive athletic careers. His two eldest brothers, Luke Maye and Beau Maye, both played basketball at the University of North Carolina, the same school where Drake played quarterback. Luke is particularly famous in UNC history for hitting a game-winning shot against Kentucky in the 2017 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, a moment that propelled the Tar Heels toward their national championship win that year.

Meanwhile, their brother Cole Maye chose a different sport and school, pitching for the University of Florida baseball team. Remarkably, Cole also won an NCAA national championship in 2017, leading to the rare distinction of two brothers from the same family winning national titles in different major sports in the same year.

Who is the oldest Maye brother?

The oldest of the Maye siblings is Luke Maye, who was born on March 7, 1997.

Luke established himself as a fan favorite and collegiate star while playing forward for the North Carolina men's basketball team from 2015 to 2019. His most memorable moment came during the 2017 NCAA Tournament, when his game-winning jump shot against Kentucky in the Elite Eight instantly became a piece of UNC basketball lore and helped propel the team toward their national championship victory that season.

Luke’s age difference with his youngest brother, Drake, who was born on August 30, 2002, is approximately five and a half years. Luke's career peaked as a junior in the 2017-2018 season, where he earned First-team All-ACC honors, averaging a double-double with 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

Having been the first to achieve collegiate stardom, Luke is recognized by the family for setting the high standard of athletic excellence that his younger brothers, including the now-NFL MVP contender Drake, continue to follow.
