Ollie Gordon has arrived. The rookie 6th-round pick scored his first career touchdown from two yards out against the Bills on Thursday Night Football.

So is the rookie taking over the Dolphins backfield? Does he have ties to any other Gordons in the NFL? We've got answers.

Is Ollie Gordon related to Melvin Gordon?

Ollie Gordon II is not related to former first-round pick Melvin Gordon.

Melvin, who played from 2015-2023 with teams like the Chargers, Broncos, and Ravens, was born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Ollie, who was drafted in the 6th round of the 2025 draft by the Dolphins, was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas.

Despite both having the same last name there's no familiar ties other than each talent being a running back.

Why is Ollie Gordon stealing carries from De'Von Achane?

Ollie Gordon is 6-feet-1-inch tall and weighs 226 pounds. When the Dolphins got inside the 10 yard line against the Bills, Mike McDaniel opted to use his big, bruising rookie over the smaller Achane.

Achane also battled injury in the preseason which gave the coaching staff more chances to see Gordon in practice. He's still the backup to Achane but has obviously gained the trust of the coaching staff.

Gordon had 25% of the snaps in week one and 12% in week two.

Through those two games he had 3 carries for 12 yards and 2 receptions for 4 yards.

Despite his pedestrian start, his first career touchdown came at a perfect time in front of a national audience facing a division rival.

Achane is the starter, for now, but Gordon could be on his heels.
