NFL preseason kicked off on Thursday night with the Hall of Fame game between the Lions and Chargers, and a familiar face came away the big winner.

Playing most of the game, Lance had a strong showing in his first action of the preseason as he aims to earn the role of Justin Herbert's backup.

Chargers QB depth chart
Rank | Player |
1. | Justin Herbert |
2. | Taylor Heinicke |
3. | Trey Lance |
4. | D.J. Uiagalelei |
Herbert is cemented as the Chargers' starter, with veteran Taylor Heinicke behind him on the current depth chart. Lance comes in as the third-string quarterback, but maybe a strong preseason will allow him to surpass Heinicke.
