Why Xavier Worthy is Chiefs' offensive lightning rod

The Kansas City Chiefs' offense is back...well, nearly.

The 37-20 beatdown of the Baltimore Ravens was more like the Chiefs of old, and there might have been one reason why the offense looked as potent as it did.

One might be the Ravens' defense and their inability to keep offenses under 30 points (allowing, on average, 33 per game). The other might be the inclusion of receiver Xavier Worthy.

Worthy's speed was a nightmare for the Ravens to defend, and when Patrick Mahomes hit Xavier for a 37-yard completion in the second quarter, Baltimore was on notice.

“I think people think he's just speed, but he's a guy who can do it all,” Mahomes said. “He can go catch those footballs over the top, he can be physical and use his body as well. Good to get him going early in the game and have that threat for the rest of the game.”

Xavier Worthy key to Chiefs bounce back

Xavier was the straw that stirred the offense's drink against Baltimore, both as a receiver and runner.

His 83 yards from five receptions show he can get downfield and be a menace in the passing game, but his two runs for 38 yards also show that head coach Andy Reid can get him involved more in multiple ways.

And that's frightening.

Are the Chiefs back? Well, let me say this...were they ever gone? Or was it a simple rough patch due to injuries?

The win over the Ravens shows that all might be right in the world...oh, and Rashee Rice is still to come back as well.
