The Kansas City Chiefs needed overtime to beat the Indianapolis Colts 23-20 at Arrowhead Stadium, but they won't care, as their playoff hopes are still alive.

In truth, it was odd that the game was so close with the Chiefs having nearly 500 total yards, running 91 plays to 50 and having the ball for nearly 17 minutes more than the Colts, but a win is a win, and now the Chiefs can look ahead to Thanksgiving and the Dallas Cowboys.

For Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 352 yards, the game was exactly what his team needed, given what was at stake.

"Yeah, this is exactly what we needed,” Mahomes said. “To win against a really good football team and the game's not going your way, you could have folded in that situation and kind of been the rest of the season. But the guys responded, found a way to win on every single unit.

"Offense, we found a way at the end, defense stood tall multiple times to give us chances. Then Harrison [Butker] and [Matt] Ariza did a great job flipping the field and making field goals. So, we needed a win like this. Now let's just try to build off of it.”

Chiefs still alive in playoff race

At 6-5, the Chiefs are still alive, and no, they aren't out of the woods just yet, but each win gets them closer to a playoff spot.

Just one game behind the seventh-seeded Buffalo Bills, who also own the tie-breaker over Kansas City, the road ahead is still tough, but the Chiefs showed on Sunday that they can still compete with the best, and in truth, it was surprising the game was so close.

Kansas City needed the win to save its season; it did, and now moves on to the Cowboys, who won't be a pushover at AT&T Stadium.

Mahomes says the game was "needed," and given the context of their season, he's right.
