When a team misses out on the playoffs, especially one like the Kansas City Chiefs, it can force the franchise to really look at its problem areas.

It can also make them realise that some of their star players might be tradeable.

Needing to refresh the roster, draft picks take precedence over star players as the team looks to cash in on a prized asset in an attempt to get more youthful.

The Athletic's Jesse Newell has an interesting thought about how the Chiefs, after missing the playoffs, could look to recreate what they did a few years ago.

"This year’s disappointing season, however, at least opens up the possibility that Veach and the Chiefs might make a bold move to reset their course," Newell writes. "Four years ago, that involved trading Hill. Could McDuffie be next in line?"

Could Chiefs really deal McDuffie?

One thing we know about the NFL is that everyone has a price.

The Chiefs, in an ideal world, won't want to lose Trent McDuffie as he has been a mainstay of Steve Spagnuolo's defense for years.

But the winds of change are blowing through Kansas City, and McDuffie certainly has currency.

Could the Chiefs look to deal the All-Pro in the search for premium draft capital? Of course, they could.

No one thought Tyreek Hill would be traded, yet the Chiefs chose to do that.

Could they do the same with McDuffie?

Newell has put the idea out there, and the one thing we know about history is that it has a funny way of repeating itself.
