Chiefs solve huge need with 19-sack monster in latest mock draft image

The Kansas City Chiefs had a host of problems this season, and on both sides of the ball, which means a lot of work to do in the offseason to fix them.

One issue the Chiefs faced this season was a lack of pass rush under Steve Spagnuolo.

Just 35 sacks (ranks 25th) from their 17 games isn't a stat Kansas City will love, but luckily, there are ways to help bolster the pass rush.

One is via free agency, but that requires a significant financial outlay. The other is through the draft.

And with the Chiefs having a top draft pick (No. 9), CBS Sports' Mike Renner, in his latest mock draft, has the Chiefs selecting Miami's Rueben Bain Jr.

"If Rueben Bain Jr. Falls because of his arm length, the Chiefs aren't likely to hesitate to add him to Steve Spagnuolo's defense," Renner wrote. "He's the exact type of power defensive end that Spagnuolo has loved dating back to his days as the Giants' defensive coordinator."

Chiefs face defining offseason

For the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs won't be in the playoffs.

A mix of poor play and injuries doomed Kansas City from Week 1, and now, with a high draft pick for the first time in years, the Chiefs can't afford to waste it.

There are still good pieces on offense with Mahomes, and given that Chris Jones is aging, getting more pass rush help in the form of Bain. Jr feels like a good choice.

Of course, we never truly know how teams will approach the draft, and we all have ideas on what they should do.

But in Bain Jr., you wouldn't knock the Chiefs for that selection.
