Packers claim Trevon Diggs: How former Cowboys corner fits with Green Bay defense image

The Green Bay Packers have claimed cornerback Trevon Diggs.

The veteran corner was released by the Dallas Cowboys after the two sides had a falling out over several disputes including his performance, where he rehabbed an injury and a disagreement on if he flew back with the team after their Christmas game against the Washington Commanders

Diggs now joins former teammate Micah Parsons in Green Bay, though the star edge rusher is out for the season with a torn ACL. The cornerback has a chance to play in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings, but the Packers could choose to ease him into their system since they are already locked into the No. 7 seed in the NFC playoff picture.

Here is more on the Packers claiming Diggs for their playoff push.

Why did Packers claim Trevon Diggs?

The Packers claimed Diggs because they are dealing with injuries at the cornerback position. Green Bay could use corner depth for the playoffs and Diggs was the most talented available in free agency. He has the chance to be the best player for the Packers at the position, but gives them a lot of upside even if he slots in as the CB2 or CB3 on defense.

How does Trevon Diggs fit with Packers defense?

If he is healthy, he fits extremely well. Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine project as the starting corners with Bo Melton and Shemar Bartholomew as backups. It depends on how quickly Diggs can get up to speed with the playbook, but there is a chance that he could start on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings ahead of the playoffs. If not, he would likely see the field in the first round against whoever ends up being the NFC's No. 2 seed.

Trevon Diggs salary and contract details

Diggs was playing on a rookie extension before he was released by Dallas. The Cowboys signed him to a five-year, $97.7 million deal. The cornerback ended up playing only two years of the deal before being released by Dallas during the 2025 season.

Diggs will be paid $500,000 for the Week 18 game against the Vikings, and would be his salary for the playoffs. There is a team option at $15.5 million for the 2026 season, per Albert Breer.

How old is Trevon Diggs?

Diggs was born on September 20, 1998 and is 27 years old.

What number will Trevon Diggs wear with the Packers?

When Diggs came into the league with the Cowboys, he wore No. 27. The cornerback switched to No. 7 ahead of the 2021 season and wore it the remainder of his tenure in Dallas.

Linebacker Quay Walker wears No. 7 for the Green Bay defense, so Diggs will likely not be able to wear that number for the Packers unless he makes a deal with Walker, which doesn't seem likely at this point in the year.

No. 27 is also currently unavailable, worn by backup safety Kitan Oladapo, who seems likelier to give up his number to Diggs than Walker.

This will be updated when it is announced what number Diggs will wear.
