On April 25, 2024, the Broncos effectively handed the keys to the franchise to Bo Nix.
Denver used the 10th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to select Nix, a strong-armed QB who earned his fair share of honors during his college career at Auburn and Oregon. With Nix came a rich history of football tradition, as both his grandfather and father played collegiately before getting into coaching.
Nix is the first in his family to make it to the NFL, but he wasn't the last. His adopted brother was drafted to the league one year later, all while feeling the support of the entire Nix family, from Bo's parents and wife to his other siblings.

Bo Nix 'adopted' brother: Tez Johnson
Buccaneers rookie receiver is Nix's "adopted" brother.
The Nix family never legally adopted Johnson, but they welcomed him into their home when he and Nix were high school teammates. When Johnson was an infant, his father died by suicide, and his mother sent him to live with the Nix family in high school.
"It wasn't necessarily the plan for me to stay," Johnson said. "It was a plan for me to go over and stay two or three days and leave. I knew when I walked in, I didn't want to leave. They took me in from all the stuff that was happening with my bio family, and it was something they wanted to do."
The two reunited in college when they transferred to play together at Oregon. Johnson was selected by Tampa Bay with the 235th pick int he 2025 NFL Draft, prompting Krista to take to Instagram and say "this mom is thrilled he will be in my time zone and a very short flight or drive away!! So excited to cheer on the Bucs," in a congratulatory message.
Johnson has maintained a strong relationship with his biological mother as well, saying, "I’ve got two moms. I have a stepdad and a dad, so I have two dads. And I have seven siblings. So, we’re a big family. My mom is so grateful because she knew if this didn’t happen, who knows where I’d be."
