Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott has elevated the careers of a lot of tight ends throughout his career.
That includes Jake Ferguson, who will play the first game since signing a four-year, $52 million extension. He struggled last season in Prescott's absence and will welcome the return of his longtime quarterback.
But will Ferguson have a performance worthy of the tight end slot in your fantasy league? Let's break it down.
Should I start or sit Jake Ferguson for fantasy in Week 1 vs. the Eagles?
The Sporting News' weekly start-sit column by Vinnie Iyer puts Ferguson just outside of the list of potential starters.
Iyer has him ranked 15th in his fantasy tight end rankings.
"He didn't do much at all in the two matchups against the Eagles' Vic Fangio defense last season," he wrote.
The one caveat to that is Cooper Rush was the starting quarterback for both of those matchups. In two games with Prescott against the Eagles in 2023, Ferguson had 18 catches for 163 yards and a touchdown.
Still, he's only a consideration to start in deep leagues. Iyer has tight ends like Kyle Pitts, Hunter Henry, and Brenton Strange slightly above Ferguson.
The final decision probably comes down to your belief in the Cowboys' offense. If you think Prescott and company could get four or more touchdowns, Ferguson could be one of them.
But if you believe in the Eagles defense, it could be a long night for the big-bodied receiver.
