How long is CeeDee Lamb out? Ankle injury timeline, return date, latest updates on Cowboys WR image

The Dallas Cowboys figure to be without star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb due to an ankle injury.

It was an awkward tackle for Lamb, where his ankle got trapped between the defender's leg and the turf. He was taken into the medical tent and was diagnosed with an ankle injury. Fans were happy to see that he came out and stood on the sideline, missing the next drive but then returning to the game. Lamb ran one route and checked himself out of the game. He shook his head and was hobbled, signaling his day was done.

CeeDee Lamb injury update

Lamb was listed as questionable to return with the ankle injury. The wide receiver took himself out of the game after trying to play through the injury. CeeDee Lamb is on the sideline and appears to be done for the day. pic.twitter.com/tN2371ubLD

Lamb wasn't expected back after he tried to return to the game and couldn't, but he was officially ruled out for the remainder of the game in the second half.

We haven't gotten a solidified update on the injury yet, but The Athletic's Jon Machota noted that Lamb was moving better than expected after the game.

More testing will be done, but team owner Jerry Jones said that the team's doctors said Lamb's injury "is not as serious as it could have been." Lamb himself, after the game, said that he "absolutely" feels like he can play next week against the Green Bay Packers

Lamb has since been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain. It will all depend on how Lamb heals and if the team doctors let him play if he can bear the pain with the risk of making it worse. For now, it seems likely that he will not play in Week 4, and could even be looking at IR.

How long will CeeDee Lamb be out?

We won't know how long Lamb will be out until he undergoes further testing on his ankle. It didn't seem like he broke it, but his ankle was very swollen when it was shown on the broadcast of the game. We don't know the extent of the injury or what the trainers told him to do, but Lamb was shown walking the sideline after he left the field.

The best guess is that Lamb sprained his ankle. There are varying degrees of ankle sprains, ranging from high to low, and they come with a corresponding amount of time that the player needs to rest it. The best-case scenario is that he can return in Week 4. The worst case is that Lamb has to miss a few games and runs the risk of re-aggravating it if he doesn't take it easy.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said that Lamb has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain. This tends to have a recovery time of four to six weeks, so it doesn't sound like Lamb will play in Week 4 like he said he could, but no decision has been made yet.
