The Dallas Cowboys have received a much-needed boost to their struggling offence with wide receiver Jonathan Mingo officially returning to practice.

The Cowboys activated the 24-year-old's 21-day practice window on Wednesday, meaning the former second-round pick is one step closer to rejoining the active roster.

Mingo had been sidelined since the preseason after suffering a PCL sprain in his right knee.

The timing of Mingo's return could not be better.

With the team's top receiver, CeeDee Lamb, sidelined with an ankle sprain, the Cowboys' passing attack is in desperate need of reinforcements.

Jonathan Mingo begins the 21-day countdown

The Cowboys now have 21 days to assess Mingo's fitness before they must activate him to the 53-man roster.

If he is not activated, the wide receiver will revert to season-ending Injured Reserve.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed his excitement about the player's return, stating, “I'm just excited to have Jonathan out there again... He's been working incredibly hard in the classroom.”

The coach also stressed the team's cautious approach, saying they will "not gonna force anything" with the 24-year-old's return.

Mingo is reportedly "clamoring to play," demonstrating his desire to contribute immediately.

What Mingo's return means for the Cowboys’ offence

The return of Jonathan Mingo could provide the Cowboys' offence with a much-needed injection of talent.

The 24-year-old wide receiver is a prototypical X receiver with great speed for his size and position.

With Lamb and KaVontae Turpin both dealing with injuries, Mingo has a strong opportunity to carve out a major role in the passing game.

The wide receiver's return would allow the team's quarterback, Dak Prescott, to attack down the field more effectively.

Mingo's talent and size are a perfect complement to Prescott's arm strength, and their chemistry could be a major factor in the team's long-term success.
