The Dallas Cowboys could very well be without cornerback DaRon Bland for the next several weeks with a foot injury because he injured it in practice on Monday. Assuming Bland does not play for the Cowboys over these weeks, they are very thin at cornerback.
Trevon Diggs is the only reliable cornerback on the roster other than Bland. Bland just signed a contract extension before the start of the 2025 NFL season. Is there a chance that the Cowboys can find a Bland replacement in free agency or the trade market for the time being?
Bleacher Report Writer Has Dallas Cowboys Finding DaRon Bland Replacement Via Trade
Kristopher Knox of bleacherreport.com created seven different mock trades in his latest article. In one mock trade, Knox has the Cowboys acquiring Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick. Knox said,
"Though they traded away star pass-rusher Micah Parsons, the Dallas Cowboys have given no indication that they're going to treat 2025 as a rebuilding year. If they're going to stay in the NFC hunt, however, they may need to add more defenders than Kenny Clark.
Dallas' defense put up a fight against the Eagles' passing attack in Week 1. However, its secondary has already suffered a blow. According to ESPN's Todd Archer, cornerback DaRon Bland could miss multiple weeks with a foot injury he suffered during a Monday practice.
Trading for Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II could give the Cowboys exactly the sort of cornerback depth they need. The 25-year-old is coming off of a fantastic game against the Cincinnati Bengals (68.7 opposing passer rating) and has shown the ability to play on the perimeter or in the slot.
Dallas would likely want to extend Newsome, who is an impending 2026 free agent, but he, Bland and Trevon Diggs would give the Cowboys an elite cornerback room long-term."
There is a very good chance that the Browns are going to be major sellers at the NFL trade deadline this season. There are going to be a lot of teams that call Cleveland about Newsome. Newsome recorded three tackles and had two pass deflections for the Browns in Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Newsome is 25 years old. It would however be a surprise if Cleveland would trade him because he has been a contributor on the Browns defense. It would be a good move for the Cowboys to trade for Newsome. They may not make the trade this moment, but it would be good for them in the long-haul.
