The Dallas Cowboys were in trouble after their loss to the Detroit Lions, which dropped them to 6-6-1, but the football gods shone down on Brian Schottenheimer's team on Monday night.

The Los Angeles Chargers beating the Philadelphia Eagles kept Dallas' hopes of the division title alive, and with that, the only route to the postseason as well.

Still needing to win out and have the Eagles stumble, the Cowboys are playing meaningful football in December, and that's all you can ask for after a 3-5-1 start.

For CBS Sports' Pete Prisco, he has the Cowboys 18th in his latest power rankings, with their season on life support.

"They aren't done yet, but the loss to Detroit was a major hit to their playoff hopes," Prisco writes. "They can't afford another."

Cowboys' season very much alive...for now

We have seen the chatter of the Cowboys' season being over after the Lions' loss, but that simply isn't the case.

From a wildcard standpoint, yes, but the Cowboys were never really in that hunt anyway; the division is where it's at.

Just 1.5 games behind the Eagles, Dallas would need to go 4-0 in the final month, and the Eagles 2-3 (one loss already being the Chargers) to win the division at 10-6-1, so that is the easiest path for the Cowboys.

Granted, it could all come crashing down with a loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night and the Eagles beating the Las Vegas Raiders

So, all eyes will be on Week 15 to see if the NFC East race continues into December.
