The Dallas Cowboys made waves with the trade of All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to help fortify the defensive line.

The Cowboys gave up a 2026 second-round pick along with a 2027 first-round pick, but that wasn't all.

Defensive tackle Mazi Smith, who has struggled mightily since coming to The Star, is now on his way to the New York Jets as part of the deal.

And in what is a little insight into how the NFL world works around this time of year, fellow defender Osa Odighizuwa revealed that he didn't even get to talk to Mazi before the trade happened.

Why? Because he didn't know it was happening.

“No, I mean like this happened all like while we were in meetings,” Osa said. “So I haven't even really got to look at my phone and see what was happening. Just kind of heard coach [Schottenheimer] talking up there. Look back to where Mazi usually sits. Empty space. I'm like, okay. So still processing all this.”

Cowboys made good on trade deadline day

I've stated for the past few days that I would be on board with any trade, as long as it meant the players the Cowboys were acquiring would be around beyond 2025.

And Logan Wilson and Williams will be. So that is a positive.

Both Williams and Wilson will help Matt Eberflus' defense right away, and with the Cowboys' bye week now approaching, the pair will be able to get into the classroom and go over all the details of their new scheme.

Week 11 sees Dallas travel to face the Las Vegas Raiders, and now it will be armed with two new defensive players who will be looking to help turn around this embattled ship.

And as for Mazi, that's just the brutal part of the business side of the NFL.
