It is no secret that the Dallas Cowboys aren't looking like a playoff team after their 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer just put an exclamation mark on it.

With the Cowboys' offense, right now, the only way this team will win games is if Dak Prescott and Co. Are nearly perfect on game day. We have seen what that looks like in the past two games when they aren't.

Dallas has made moves to help the defense, with Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson coming to The Star via trades, as the team looks to avoid wasting this season given how good the offense is.

But is there a heightened urgency for the Cowboys to take advantage of how Prescott is playing?

"There's just urgency all the way around," Schottenheimer said. "We want to win. We want to build a world championship team, where we sit right now, we're nowhere close to being where we want to be.

"We've got time this week to reassess some things, and that's our job as coaches is to clean some things up and tighten some things up and to get ready for the last eight games. So, the urgency is here because we're here to win and compete to win."

Cowboys improve defense to help Prescott?

That is what the front office has done, and in truth, something had to be done. The last two weeks aside, the offense has been a juggernaut and one of the best in football.

Yes, it has stuttered of late, but without getting any help from the defense, the offense has been forced to sit and watch as the opposition walks down the field scoring touchdown after touchdown.

As such, one single punt means that the Cowboys are a step closer to being behind and forced to go away from their game script and becoming one-dimensional, which has happened all too often this season.

There has to be urgency because with Dak under contract for at least the next three years, that's your window to win.

And it appears Schottenheimer knows it.
